    Hello
I’m Chema Lomas and live in Vitoria, Spain. I red your comment and found it very interesting and brought back memories. It’s a shame you didn’t reach the summit, but you did well to descend in those conditions. Besides, you can come back and climb it again… because Kerenci will still be there 🙂
I was traveling alone in Sumatra for a month in August 1997 (28 years ago!). I don’t remember the name of the village I left from, but there was a tea processing factory in the area.
I climbed and descended that mountain alone, but I met a young man at the only shelter there. When I woke up, the guy had already left, and I didn’t see anyone else in the two days.
The track was easy, although somewhat exhausting, but I was lucky that the weather was good. I reached the rim of the crater almost without realizing it, and suddenly, I looked down at it and was impressed by the successive noisy, sulfurous eruptions, and the surrounding landscape.
I went down rather quickly, because I was afraid it might rain, but it didn’t start until nightfall, when getting the village. It was a very nice treck!
    Greetings
    Jose

      Hi Jose,

Thanks for reading our blog. Yes its a great place, and hope to return soon and finally make it to the sumit! Yes the hardest part is to turn around, but its what must be done, and indeed it will still be there next year, and even after we are all long gone.

      Have agreat day buddy….
