In recent years Ao Nang and Krabi have grown rapidly. There is now a massive choice of restaurants and accomadation. So many, that the choice is a bit overwhelming, when looking for the best restaurants in Krabi. I have been living and working here on and off since 2007. I haven’t tried every single restaurant (there are so many), but most, especially those which have been here for a long time and come highly recommended.
In central Ao Nang there a few good restaurants, however if you take quality and price into consideration, I actually cant recommend to many there. Though saying that, its actually quite hard finding bad food in Thailand!!!. The street food is amazing, as well as most restaurants.
If you are staying in Ao Nang, in general the restaurants near the beach and on the beach promenade are the most expensive, and quality of some is quite low. The further you go away from there, quality gets higher and prices lower, and you start getting the restaurants where the locals eat.
There are many great Thai and Western restaurants in the area, so I have compiled for you a list of the best restaurants in Krabi, to make your choice a little easier.
Bon Appetite !!!!

Ruen Mai (Krabi)
The setting of the Ruen Mai Thai restaurant is simply stunning. An architectural masterpiece made entirely from bamboo and hard wood. It’s set in a lovely garden next to a pond and their own vegetable garden. Compared to the tourist restaurants, this is Thai food at a completely different level, proper Thai cuisine. Among their signature dishes are Makua Yaow; Long Thai eggplant barbecued and then served in a fine coconut currry with prawns. Another great dish is their Gaeng Phu Cha Plu; Crab Coconut Curry served with a tradition Thai vegetable, Bai Cha Plu. Even simple dishes like Chicken Cashew-nut taste much better here. Also be sure to try their homemade drinks like Butterfly Pea with Lemon. This is one of the best restaurants in Krabi.
The Last Fisherman (Ao Nang)
The Last Fisherman is one of the classic restaurant in Ao Nang, It has been here for more than 15 years. It’s the perfect place to watch the sunset and enjoy a great meal. Its located at the far end of the Ao Nang beach, close to the limestone cliffs and the Monkey-Trail. There is no big road here, so it’s very quiet and you can get here just by walking down the beach for 10min. For lunch they have a fantastic a la cart menu, but for dinner there is only one choice and that is their awesome BBQ dinner. There is a salad bar for starters, as a main course you can choose BBQ; spareribs, squid, chicken, or Kebab sticks. With that comes a massive baked potato, corn cob, and cream, and a dessert buffet.
Umbertos Italian Cuisine (Ao Nang)
If you have the cravings for some Italian cuisine, then Umberto’s Cuisine is where you stomach wants to go. The culinary delights served here will make your taste buds actually believe they are in Italy. This is definitely the best Italian restaurant in Krabi, and maybe even Thailand. Everything is tasty here, among my favorite are the home made ravioli and gnocchi. Also their pizzas, grilled Lamb Chops, Spaghetti Nettuno, and Wagyu Cube Roll are fantastic. Umberto is a fine Italian chef who has been living here for a long time.

Radcha Rod Dim Sum (Krabi)
If you love Chinese food, and Dim Sum then you must go to Krabi for breakfast/brunch while here at Radcha Rod Dim Sum. The choice is overwhelming and unique. Some days they will have special dishes like pork from the oven marinated in herbs and sweet Hoisin Sauce. If you come, be sure to come no later than 10:30am, otherwise not much will be left, especially on weekends. Best be there around 8-9am.

Krua Thara (Klong Heng)
Krua Thara is the best seafood restaurant in the area and one of the best restaurants in Krabi. It has been here since 1995, and was washed away by the Tsunami in 2004. They have the largest choice of seafood, clams and mussels. Also they have many fish tanks, so you can choose the fish you want them to prepare for you. Everything is delicious here, among my favorite are their dishes with Soft Shell Crab and their fired mussels with Sweet Basil.
Carnivore Steak & Grill ( Ao Nang)
Hence the name, if you love meat, then Carnivore is the place to go. Superb stakes, burgers and other European delights. Also they serve seafood, but the main attraction here is Angus beef, lamb and pork cuts. Great salads and mashed potatoes too.
Ruen Tip (Klong Heng)
This is a lovely restaurant with great Thai food. It’s next to a river on wooden decks surrounded by lush nature. It is possible to go for a dip in the river, if you are up for it!!!. I personally love coming here for lunch after spending the morning on the beach, but they are open all day. They have one of the biggest menu’s I have ever seen, so the choice can be difficult. Among my favorites are Tiger prawns in Tamarind sauce and Yam Tua Plu, a tradition Thai Salad.
